COT Neighbors United - Day of Play

Loose parts play!
You’ve heard us say it before… Children need to play, get outside and off the screens. COT Neighbors United (COTNU) knows all about getting the kids outside and playing! On Saturday, September 19th from 10am-2pm, they will be hosting their 5th annual Day of Play at Veterans Memorial Park in the City of Tonawanda – and it is free. If you’ve seen their Pop Up Playground at Niawanda Park over the summer, this event is that… but bigger, messier and generational!
So, what do the adults need to know about the event? Adults should make sure kids wear play clothes, refrain from wearing the new school shoes, and bring an extra towel or spare set of clothes to change in to. For the kids, they need to be given the opportunity to get messy, be creative and play in the park!
We know children need to play, lead their own play and get messy and the Day of Play provides just that. From cardboard boxes for fort building, to a paint slip and slide, a foam pit, ball pit, shavings cream, mud kitchen, building, knocking down, re-building and more, kids have access to sensory rich fun. Even after they get filthy from playing throughout the day, the COT Fire Department stops by at 1:30pm to spray the kids down!
COTNU will also be fundraising for the nature-based playground by selling hot dogs at the event! If you are a play supporter and want to help sponsor the event, please reach out to Lindsay Brauer Dzielski at 716-440-8827 or check out their website (cotneighbors.com) for more information.
