Civil War reenacting is a great way to learn about history first hand. Thousands of people engage in this hobby each year and with the Camp of Instruction organized by the American Army, reenactors representing the 34th North Carolina (Confederate) and the 64th New York (Union) Civil War regiments are ready to recruit you!
During this day camp event, unit commanders will instruct young soldiers aged 8 – 14 in the structure, skills and customs of the military during the Civil War. Throughout the day, Civil War reenactors will open the camp to students, enabling them and other visitors to examine uniforms and equipment, and participate in many of the same things Civil War soldiers did in the field, from playing games and singing songs to marching, drilling, skirmishing and other planned scenarios.
Participants are asked to please sign in at the recruitment table no later than 10:30am. Please dress comfortably in blue jeans, button down shirts, sneakers or shoes with ties. Feel free to wear suspenders if you have them but no shorts, t-shirts or sandals. Lunch will be provided by BNHV. Non-firing wooden muskets and battle flags will also be provided.
