The Niagara History Center, located at 215 Niagara St., Lockport, has kicked off 2016 as “The Year of the Family” with its new monthly “Hidden History” programs, an all-ages evening (best for children age 5 and up) based on a different historical theme each month with related activities. This FREE program, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, on the second Tuesday of each month in 2016, also includes a pizza and beverage supper.
“Hidden History” evenings will relate to little-known, unusual or mysterious aspect of Niagara County history. Taking inspiration from their popular children’s history programs, the program will involve role playing and acting out each theme in different ways, such as assuming the identity of a real historical person. Participants will play games, have a scavenger hunt, read maps, study artifacts, and “make and take” craft projects based upon the theme. All of these activities will be designed so that both children and parents or grandparents will participate and have fun together.
This FREE program is open to all Western New York families, regardless of residence, but pre-registration is required. Call the History Center at 716-434-7433 for reservations.
